SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND - Loveland, OHIO Graduate begins work for Jim Lehrer News Hour

SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND - 1997 Loveland High School graduate, Katherine (Miller) Kleinman was recently hired by the Jim Lehrer News Hour as their On-Line Producer. Kleinman graduated from the School of Communications at Ohio University (cum laude) in 2001 with degrees in Multi-Media Studies and concentrated her studies in computer science and music.

Kleinman, recently moved to the Washington D.C, area when her husband, Brian Kleinman, from Bexley, Ohio, starting working for the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President. Mr. Kleinman also graduated from Ohio University, and had recently completed post graduate studies at Indiana University with degrees in Environmental Science and Public Affairs.

Katie Kleinman will be responsible for the style, content, and redesign of the NewsHour web site.

She worked for WOUB the local PBS/NPR station at her alma mater Ohio University. In Bloomington, Indiana, Kleinman worked for a public relations firm creating CD-ROM's, Web sites and other interactive material.

Also, while at Ohio University, Kleinman was the Audio/Visual Web Designer for Wired for Books. She was post-production editor and sound designer for two audio books, Shakespeare's Macbeth and Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The production was nominated for an Emmy and received national awards and press coverage

Kleinman began her career in news as a Traffic Assistant and Announcer at the PBS station WOUB, in Athens, Ohio in 1999 and was an Operations Intern at NBC station WCMH Channel 4, Columbus, Ohio.

Jim Lehrer, was recently chosen as the moderator for the first presidential debate between John Kerry and George Bush that airs this Thursday from the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida. Lehrer is the anchor and Executive Editor of the PBS news program seen in Cincinnati weekdays at 6 o'clock P.M.

The NewsHour originates from Washington, D.C. and is broadcast by more than 300 PBS stations, reaching 98% of the nation's television households. Close to 3 million people tune in to The NewsHour each weeknight and more than 8 million unduplicated viewers watch at least one night a week. In addition, the Erdos & Morgan Opinion Leader survey ranks The NewsHour first among all television news programs as the most credible, most objective, most influential and most current news program on television.

The Online NewsHour, which Kleinman will produce, has won high marks for original reporting, interactive forums and substantive news coverage on the Internet. The site now averages more than 1 million unique visitors a week. In addition, Online NewsHour features Extra, an interactive current events site for students and teachers that includes more than 150 lesson plans for bringing current events into the classroom.

The Online NewsHour contains streaming audio of the past broadcasts of the Jim Lehrer NewsHour, and daily national and international news.

For educators, students, and researchers, the NewsHour web site provides archives of past News Hour reports such as in-depth analysis about the crises in Sudan, President Clinton's by-pass surgery, stem cell research, and the global fight to combat Aids.

Upon graduation from Loveland High School, Kleinman received, The Atlee Greenwald Scholarship, The PTA President's Scholarship Award for Excellence, The Presidential Education Excellence Award, and The Women's Club of Loveland Scholarship.

Kleinman is the daughter of Donna and David Miller of Loveland, Ohio. David Miller is the Editor and Publisher of Loveland Magazine.
