Oxford, Miss. - Amy Gill: STANDOUT SOCCER AT OLE MISS

Gill_100905Oxford, Miss. - “Amy, without question, is one of the quickest players in the SEC,” said Steve Holeman the Head Women's Soccer Coach at the University of Mississippi.
Amy Gill graduated from Loveland High School in 2003. While at Loveland she was a 2003 Soccer All-State selection and two-time Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC) Player of the Year, a 2003 All Region honoree, was named to the First Team, All-Conference, and First-Team District three times. She was a four-year recipient of FAVC Academic Award winner, earned All-State Track honors, and set three Loveland Track records. She was the Student Council President her senior year.

Her freshman year at Ole Miss, Gill played in all 21 Rebel Soccer matches with two starts, both at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament. Lone points came in the Rebel debut vs. Northwestern State, tallying a goal and an assist. Nine of her 10 shots of the season were on goal and she fired shots-on-goal in the final four matches of the year. Gill played all 90 minutes in SEC Tournament against No. 8 Florida. Gill made the UMAA Honor Roll during the soccer season.

On October 14, of the 2005 season, Gill as a sophomore, scored the third goal against the South Carolina Gamecocks. On October 16 Gill, scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining to give Ole Miss a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Florida, recording the Rebel’s first-ever win against the Gators. She was then flooded with honors after her stellar weekend. She was named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, then received National Team of the Week honors on Tuesday and Wednesday from Soccer America, Top Drawer Soccer and Soccer Buzz.

Holeman told LOVELAND MAGAZINE, “She is not the biggest player but makes up for her size with her tenacity and game changing tackles. She is a threat on the attack and can run with the ball at speed. She has been a big part of our success this year and is what you would call an impact player. The greatest thing about Amy Gill is that her best days are still ahead of her.”

The No. 28 Ole Miss Rebel soccer team finished the year (14-5-2).

Gill is the daughter of Tim and Bev Gill of Miami Township.
