CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO - Free grave markers for Clermont Veterans

CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO - The Clermont County Veterans’ Services Commission is on a mission to ensure that the grave of every veteran in Clermont County is marked to recognize their military service.  “We call this initiative Operation Grave Marker,” said Frank Morrow, a service officer with the Veterans’ Services office.  “We have free markers available for conflicts dating back to the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.”Frankmorrow

Bronze and aluminum markers are also available for Purple Heart recipients, National Guard veterans, and others.  Each marker comes with a steel rod for insertion into the ground, as well as a small American flag.

Recently, Goshen Township requested several hundred of the
markers for display in cemeteries there.  “It is very important that we give these veterans this last bit of recognition,” said Goshen Township Service Director Lou Clemons.  “Our township has been researching some of the unmarked graves in our cemeteries to identify the veterans.  Near the cannon statue at the Goshen Cemetery we have been able to identify four of seven previously unnamed veterans and properly mark their gravesites.  It is important for us to recognize those who gave so much for our freedom.”

For more information about the free markers, contact the Clermont County Veterans’ Services Commission at (513) 732-7363.
