"We are very appreciative of Mr. Giuffre's hard work, and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor," said Board President Nona Cress.
Applications for the position will be accepted until June 28. The board hopes to hire a new treasurer at their July board meeting.
"The Board is seeking a treasurer who can balance fiscal stewardship with the district's central mission of providing an excellent education to our students," explained Ms. Cress. "We believe the strong financial position of the district will attract highly qualified candidates to lead us through the construction process and to a new standard of excellence."
The Board of Education has been proactive in helping alleviate the tax burden on homeowners and has approved a plan of finance to stretch the budget, keep within the five-year forecast and stay off the ballot longer.
"Our goal has been to look at creative options to stretch our operating budget and to keep Little Miami Schools off the ballot longer, even though we are experiencing historically high student population growth in a slowing economy," said Superintendent Dan Bennett.
These measures have included discontinuing collection of the emergency operating levy one year early, converting 3 inside mills for permanent improvement and increasing operating money from the state instead of through a local property tax. Additionally, the district implemented a new high-deductible health insurance plan for teachers with a 39 percent reduction in premiums, and restructured transportation to reduce expenditures.
The district consistently has received awards for excellence in financial reporting from both the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). It also has been honored for excellence in the preparation and issuance of a high-quality Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by the Auditor of State. These prestigious financial reporting awards are only conferred to school systems whose financial operations have met or exceeded rigorous standards established by these professional organizations.
Candidates interested in applying should submit a letter of interest, resume, copy of a current Ohio Treasurer License or evidence that one is obtainable, and a list of five references to: Little Miami Board of Education, Treasurer/CFO Search, 5819 Morrow-Rossburg Road, Morrow, Ohio 45152.
