LOVELAND, OHIO - Pennies For Peace: “ Was really worth something.”

Weinstein by Bonnie McNett

LOVELAND, OHIO - Many of you can remember when a penny was really worth something - walking down to the corner store where your biggest decision was a choice between some candy, a stick of gum or a baseball card.  The students at Children's Meeting House Montessori School are learning that pennies still have value and can really add up to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged people half way around the globe.

The school recently participated in the Pennies For Peace program, which collects pennies to help purchace school supplies for needy children.  The Montessori students were encouraged to use their math skills for the project as well.  They could bring in pennies for the number of months old they were, how many pounds they weighed, how many inches tall they were, and other fun counting and math related activities.  The week long project collected 12,578 pennies destined for a Montessori school in Croatia.
