Dann, 46, a brash upstart when he won election in a near-sweep of statewide offices by Democrats in November 2006, finds himself barely holding his job just 16 months into a four-year term. His Democratic colleagues are keeping their distance, and Republicans are demanding he quit. Read on...

MORROW, OHIO - Little Miami Intermediate School groundbreaking

MORROW, OHIO - The Little Miami Intermediate School trumpet ensemble stood tall as the notes of America sounded from their instruments - these students knew they were making history.

Staff, students and community members recently celebrated the commencement of construction activities at a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new district wide Intermediate School.

"Little Miami is in the midst of a radical transformation marked by Excellence with Value," said 2home042809 Superintendent Dan Bennett, who discussed the district's efforts at achieving excellence while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

The community celebrated the kick off during the ceremony that included brief speeches from the board of education and administration, a construction update and ceremonial turning of the dirt. A similar event was held in August 2007 for the high school addition and new junior high school.

"From the moment that the bond levy was passed, your support of these new schools came with great responsibility from our team; from day one, we have been committed to delivering Excellence with Value," said Justin Koenes, senior project manager for the Quandel/Dugan & Meyers construction management team.

"The future is bright for Little Miami. These new facilities include capabilities for the latest teaching techniques while incorporating modern technology. These schools have been designed to effectively grow as your community will grow."

The high school addition is scheduled for completion by August 2008, and the new junior high and the new intermediate schools are both scheduled for completion by August 2009. The overall plan, "Excellence with Value," will create additional space to house 5,200 students district-wide with the ability to easily increase capacity to 6,000 students; it provides flexibility for the future by using phased planning.

CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO - Environmental Office Recognized for Recycling Efforts

Paulbraasch CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO - The Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition has named the Clermont County Office of Environmental Quality (OEQ) as one of five 2008 environmental award winners.  OEQ was recognized as the government winner for its efforts to improve the efficiency of recycling across Clermont County, saving taxpayer’s money by ensuring that recyclable materials don’t end up in landfills.

“I am honored that we have been selected to receive this award, “said Clermont OEQ Director Paul Braasch.  “The average American throws away 4.5 pounds of trash each day; every day in this country we collectively throw away enough trash to fill 63,000 garbage trucks.  Instead of having all these materials wind-up in landfills, we encourage citizens to explore the many recycling options available in Clermont County and across the area.”

The Clermont County Web site www.oeq.net offers a wide range of recycling information, including the locations of 35 recycling centers in the county.  Citizens are encouraged to visit the site to learn more about the numerous recycling opportunities that are currently available, and how to sort your recyclables.

The Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition is a community of non-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies, and individuals from the tri-state, working cooperatively to promote the beauty and environmental quality of the tri-state area.
