Rolke Auction Photos: Now it's just history

5

LOVELAND, OHIO - On Saturday May 10, 2008, Rolke Bros. Supply in Downtown Loveland ceased business when Poe Auctions sold the total inventory and remaining equipment.

"This was a family owned business that had been in operation for over 60 years and packed to the walls with all of the items regularly seen in vintage feed and supply stores," said auctioneer Jim Poe.

Ron Rolke was gracious enough to allow Loveland Magazine to poke around and climb through the rafters in the weeks leading up to the auction, to make a photographic record.

The photos you can view by clicking on this link are those taken the several weeks before the auction, and of the auction itself.

“Tico 'T-Baby's Barbeque Sauce stops traffic

Bbqcrowd

LOVELAND, OHIO - Although some have tried, there is no known method to transmit smell over the internet, if there was however, you'd be getting pretty darn hungry right now. For many last Saturday afternoon, the sight of the BBQ smoke that then waft through open car windows at the corner of Loveland Maderia and West Loveland was too much to resist.

Sheldon “Tico” Greene said he and his two partners, Shane Horton and Terrell Simms have all the temporary health and local permits they need to set up their grill, but are looking for a permanent Loveland home for Liberty City Barbeque. Green lives in Middletown, Horton in Forest Park, and Simms in Loveland.

Greene's cooking resume is long and it takes him several minutes to recite, but recently he was the chef at the Ramada Inn and kitchen manager at BBQ Junction, both in Middleton. He is a retired corrections officer, working for the State of Ohio for sixteen years.

Ticotbaby

Liberty City Barbeque will be at the corner each Saturday and Sunday and are giving away a free hot dog to any youngster under ten, showing in a little league uniform. Greene said as soon as they get established, they will add weekdays to their schedule.

Greene is talkative, and is quick to share his BBQing secrets. He fed water soaked hickory chips and mesquite charcoal beneath the racks of pork spare ribs, rib tips, chicken, and beef brisket as he explained that he uses a seven spice rub. Two flavors of “Tico 'T-Baby's Barbeque Sauce” could be purchased along with your order. He described his cooking as “southern” barbeque style.

Also on the menu is corn on the cob, rib and beef brisket sandwiches, whole or half chicken, full or half slab dinners, Chicken (Jurk Jamaican), potato salad, and pound cake.
