MILFORD, OHIO – “CrossTownship” Shootout

MILFORD, OHIO – Milford High School was awarded the first annual Miami “CrossTownship” Shootout trophy when the defeated Loveland 60-49 on January 11.

Milford currently stands atop the FAVC Buckeye Division with a 7-1, 14-2 record. Winton Woods is also 7-1 in league competition and 11-5 overall. Loveland High School is currently in third place with a record of 6-2 and 10-5. Loveland handed Milford their only league loss in November.

Last night, Milford defeated Glen Este 59-37 at Glen Este. Winton Woods won 64-44 at home against Harrison, and Loveland traveled to Anderson and brought back a 44-34 victory.

Milford hosts Winton Woods for a face off on February 1. Loveland will play at Winton Woods on February 8. Loveland's first season game against Winton Woods ended with an overtime victory for Winton Woods, 58-56.

Loveland Junior Bobby Capobianco is second in FAVC scoring averaging 20.2 points per-game and first in rebounding averaging 11.8. He scored 28 points against Sycamore on January 22 and 26 on Friday against Anderson.

Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Survey Records 649 Birds

Number is highest ever noted in state during annual count

OAK HARBOR, OH - Observers counted 649 birds during the recent Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Survey - the highest number ever recorded during the event. The previous record count for bald eagles during this survey was 554 in 2006.

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Epiphany Blood Drive

YOU  have something  Hoxworth Blood Bank needs, and a local place to donate.

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Did you know that at least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 platelet donors are needed  DAILY to meet patients needs of 28 greater Cincinnati hospitals? “I didn't know that, that is a lot of blood,” said Epiphany United Methodist Church member, Nancy Roberts.

If you are gifted with good health and are able to share this gift with those who are not, why not consider signing up to give this life saving donation. As an added bonus Hoxworth will provide free refreshments for your services. "That's a deal," added Roberts.

The church's Love In Action committee is sponsoring a blood drive at the church on January 31.

You can call the office: Kathy Millburg  677-9866 ext. 206. And she will plug you in at your convenience.

Appointments start at 2:15 PM and end at 8:00 PM.

"Please consider saving a life or two or three," said Roberts.

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO - Lady Tigers Defeat Goshen Lady Warriors

ErandallSYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO - Loveland started the non-conference game with a quick 8-0 run in defeating Goshen 81-31 and improving the Lady Tigers record to 15-2. Loveland is currently on a six game winning streak. All Loveland varsity players scored in the game as they continued their timely three -point shooting and tough defense.Sophomore Erin Randall continued her three- point assault by hitting her first four three -point attempts and led Loveland scoring with 16 points.her first four three -point attempts and led Loveland scoring with 16 points. Senior Marissa Boswell and Sophomore Abby McIver each had two three- point field goals. Senior Jen Elmore sank all five of her field goal attempts. Loveland scored 41 points from 28 Goshen turnovers and dominated play in the paint by scoring 50 points to Goshen’s eight.
 
Goshen senior Staci Hicks led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down a game high eight rebounds. Hicks is leading the Southern Buckeye Conference with 19.2 points per game average. Hicks recently threw in 29 points in a January 17, 2008 victory over conference opponent East Clinton netting her over 1000 career points. Hicks has been playing hurt from early season injuries and just returning to playing shape. Goshen is in a rebuilding year carrying two experienced seniors while developing three sophomore and six junior girls.
 
Goshen (6-8, 5-5 SBC): K. Steele 1-0-3, M. Constable 0-2-2, S. Hicks 9-3-21, J. Buchanan 1-3-5: Goshen had 1 steal, 2 assists, 14 rebounds and 28 turnovers.
 
Loveland (15-2, 6-2 FAVC): R. Voss 5-2-12, A. McIver 4-1-11, E. Wenger 1-1-3, J. Elmore 5-0-10, E. Henry 1-0-2, M. Boswell 3-1-9, K. Gish 5-0-10, E. Iaciofano 2-0-4, E. Randall 5-2-16,
A.Pohl 2-0-4: Loveland had 15 steals, 18 assists, 33 rebounds and 7 turnovers.
 
Loveland’s next home game is Saturday January 26th at 7:30 PM against Harrison. Loveland will be honoring five varsity graduating seniors Elyse Wenger, Jen Elmore, Erin Henry, Krystle Gish and Marissa Boswell in a brief ceremony before the game and after the game get- together with their coaches, teammates, parents and well wishers.

LOVELAND, OHIO - Congresswoman Jean Schmidt presented a Proclamation to the Loveland Initiative last Sunday evening at the annual Loveland Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. She was introduced by member Anthony Houser, who also was the Master of Ceremony for the evening.

On the left is Terri Rogers, President of the Loveland Initiative, who thanked Schmidt for the honor. The Proclamation reads as follows:

      Whereas, Sunday, January 20, 2008, marks the 10th anniversary celebration in Loveland to honor the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and,

      Whereas, Loveland Initiative was founded in 1995 by the Loveland residents to achieve better lives for their children, and whose mission is to educate and assist low-income children and their families; and,

       Whereas, Loveland Initiative’s goals are to provide the working poor with access to critical services that will improve their education, obtain better jobs, and reduce poverty and hunger.   Through the generous donations and assistance from the Loveland community, local businesses, churches, organizations, stores, schools, our local citizens, and our Police and Fire departments, a better quality of life can be achieved by those in need; and,

      Whereas, we invite everyone in the Second Congressional District to honor Loveland Initiative for following the example set by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by having a community focus, heart of service, and desire to see positive change in the lives of people.
