LOVELAND, OHIO NEWS - Fire Department Receives Federal Grant

LOVELAND, OHIO NEWS - The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department received notification this week from the Federal Emergency Management Agency of an award in the 2007 Fire Act Grant. The 90% grant was awarded in the amount of $225,000 for the purchase of radios for the departments 40 fulltime and 35 part time firefighters.

According to Fire Chief Otto Huber, “This grant will go a long way in making our fire scenes much safer for our firefighters and give us communications capabilities with Cincinnati, Hamilton, Clermont and Warren Counties.”

Loveland Mayor Rob Weisgerber stated “Enhancing technology is one of council’s goals for 2008. With enhancements like this, we improve the safety and productivity of the Department and are able to provide enhanced services to the residents on our limited budgets.  We are certainly proud that our department was successful in receiving this grant.”

President of the Symmes Township Trustees Kathy Wagner stated “ This equipment will allow our firefighters to communicate with our neighboring departments. The goal of Symmes Township is to work cooperatively with our neighbors thereby enhancing services and minimizing cost to the taxpayer. Our Fire Department receiving this grant will mean a future savings for our Township in that we will not have to purchase this equipment from our fire levies.” The new equipment will be ordered within the next few weeks and will be in the hands of the firefighters by spring according to the department.

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO NEWS - $25,000.00 towards Tiger Turf

Tigerturfcheck

SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO NEWS - “The Loveland Community is driven by individuals with futuristic attitudes and commitment of excellence for our student athletes. The Loveland Athletic Boosters knew individuals and groups like Loveland Youth Football would rise to the occasion,” said Booster President Jeff Williams.

A $25,000.00 check was recently presented to the Loveland Athletic Boosters to be put toward the fund raising project of a turf field for Loveland High School. The check was presented by Jeff Scheeler, Treasurer of the Loveland Youth Football (LYF) organization

Scheeler said, “The decision to make this contribution was voted unanimously by the LYF Board, including President Duane Meyer, Wes Burroughs, John Storer, Director Dave Popp, Secretary Jeff Ashmore, Assistant Director Toddy Riley, and myself.”

“LYF feels that a turf field will provide a safe and better program for the youth regardless of the sport. It will benefit the LYF specifically by giving them the opportunity to host championship games which can only be hosted on turf fields,” said Scheeler.

Scheeler added that he feels a turf field is good for the community as a whole, and all other sports as well as football.

After receiving the large donation, Williams said, “With the $25,000.00 donation for our Tiger Turf campaign, the Loveland Athletic Boosters take pride in Building the tradition of Loveland Athletics now and into the future.”

A group of community volunteers has stepped forward to coordinate an effort to raise non-school funds to provide turf to the Loveland High School stadium. The $500,00.00 Tiger Turf campaign will replace the playing field with "State of the Art" third generation field turf installed for the Fall 2008 football and soccer season.

Unlike a turf field, a sod field can’t be used as often due to weather and field conditions, and after 10 years of maintenance, the cost of sod and turf are roughly equivalent, according to promotional material provided by the Athletic Boosters. “By installing turf now, we have a versatile field that our kids can use safely, year round with little maintenance.” The Boosters say that artificial turf significantly increases field usage by allowing multiple sports, fund raisers, and community events to take place without harming the field. They also say that the "Tiger Turf" will create an opportunity to host regional athletic championships, concerts and multi-cultural events, and that studies have concluded a turf field is more safe than conventional grass fields.
