Art exhibit, Sunday Supper, Celtic, Renaissance, and Medieval music
by Jane Rockwell
Grailville is well known for many things, but one that often comes to mind is the 300 acres of beautiful land in our community that the Grail has caringly preserved. The spiritual tradition in the Grail of respect for the land coupled with a commitment to positive action has made Grailville a natural oasis as well as a working example of organic agriculture.
In celebration of this ongoing work Grailville has planned a Fall Equinox Feast and Art Exhibit. This event is supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
The art exhibit, Documenting a Season of Growth at Grailville, will be a group of photographs showing the beauty of things – both wild and domestic – through out the growing season at
Grailville. Work by artists Elizabeth Robinson, Elizabeth Murphy, Bonnie Hendricks, Lenie Schaarman, Becky Hill and Helen Fox will be featured. Flora, fauna and beautiful land, - they are all there. I was privileged
to see the huge range of wonderful pictures that were candidates for this exhibit as it was being put together. What a difficult selection process, but what a fabulous show has emerged! Some of these pictures will be available for sale at the time of the exhibit for $20. They will be printed no larger than 11” x 17” and mounted but not framed. Duplicates of any of these images can be ordered. Proceeds go to benefit Grailville.
Yes, this is one of Grailville’s famous Sunday Suppers! It is made unique this time by a special menu that focuses on foods actually produced at Grailville or by other local growers. A variety
of foods will be served buffet style for diners to choose from. The Grailville gardens are large and the harvest is burgeoning. Just to tempt you, several of the dishes are: “Bonny Bells” - luscious large sweet
peppers stuffed with rice and savory vegetables and custom made sausage from Pat’s Pastured Pork (a product of the cooperative pig farming venture at Grailville with Grailville farmer Steve Edwards & Pat Hill). As always there will be a vegetarian version available of this dish. “High-C Puffs” – a light and crispy fillo pastry filled with gorgeous green swiss chard, feta cheese, chopped onions and herbs. These tasty, vitamin rich morsels always disappear fast. “Garden Fantasy Quiches” filled with a variety of organic garden vegetables surrounded by a delicate egg custard. We can also look forward to scrumptious baked Grailville ham being carved. Oh, did I mention the dessert potential of fresh apples and pears?
Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 3:30pm is the Opening Reception for the photography exhibit. It is located in the Dining Hall at Grailville, 932 O’Bannonville Rd., Loveland, OH. Refreshments
will be served. Music will be provided by Auburn Cantiga, a group specializing in Celtic, Renaissance, and Medieval music. This reception is free and the public is invited.
At 5:30pm, following the Opening Reception is the Fall Sunday Supper. Its bountiful buffet is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Reservations and advance payment for the dinner are required. You may call Grailville at 683-2340. Or reserve on their website: www.grailville.org
This makes a wonderful relaxing Sunday afternoon and evening so I hope you will combine both events. If you have never attended an event at Grailville be prepared to experience the wonderful hospitality that has long been the tradition in the Grail.
