Who Swallowed a Fly'?

Childrensmeetnursing

By Bonnie McNett

LOVELAND, OHIO - The first, second and third grade students at Children's Meeting House Montessori School shared the gift of song at a local nursing home on Wednesday May 14.  The residents of Loveland Health Care Center were delighted by songs such as 'There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly', 'This Land is Your Land', 'My Dog Named Blue', and 'Waltzing Matilda'.

John Phenix, a teacher at the school, practiced songs with the children for three months and accompanied their voices with his guitar.

"The children really enjoy preforming for an audience and the experience was rewarding and valuable for both residents and children," said Mike Flohr, a teacher at Children's Meeting House Montessori School.

LOVELAND, OHIO – Daly's council seat open

LOVELAND, OHIO – Councilman Dan Daly has sent a letter of resignation, effective May 14, stating that he has accepted a new job in his home town of Pittsburgh. At the May 14 council meeting Arnold Bellush and Dennis Berry spoke, saying they were throwing their hats into the ring desiring to be named to Daly's unfinished term. Both Bellush and Berry have run for a council seat in the past.

Daly's council term will expire in November of 2009. Bellush ran an unsuccessful council race in the 2007 election, and Berry was unsuccessful in 2005.

Mayor Rob Weisgerber said at last night's meeting that Council “would take its time” in appointing a replacement, and encouraged residents to submit their desire to be appointed to the Clerk of Council, Linda Cox or 683-0150 .

In an e-mail to city council Berry said, "Loveland has some interesting challenges ahead of it, as well as many opportunities. City Manager Tom Carroll recently talked about 'voter fatigue'.  With our rising cost of living, all the debate that is going on for this years national election, and other international pressures all around us, 'voter fatigue' may be putting it mildly.”

Bellush also e-mailed council.

As you well know, the Warren County portion of the City of Loveland has *never* had a representative on the Loveland City Council. Loveland in Warren County, while currently small in population, will be where the future growth of Loveland will occur. My decades of service in local and state government as a township committeeman, regional utilities commissioner and technical assistant to the director of state water resources, have given me the education and experience that could serve our community well in this period of future growth. In the November election I was endorsed by the local newspaper as well as the Chamber of Commerce. Of the 200 or so ballots cast in the Warren County portion of the City of Loveland, I received 192 affirmative votes. I have recently been elected to the Board of the Brandywine Homeowners Association. I promise to work hard for *_all_* the citizens of Loveland and to be a “team player” on the council.

At last night's Council meeting, Paulette Leeper said that the Chamber cannot and did not endorse any candidates for office.

Liafire

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OHIO - On April 29, the Love in Action Committee (The Church Ladies) of Epiphany United Methodist Church paid a visit, they call it a "gig", to the Miami Township North Fire/EMS Station at the intersection of Wards Corner and Branch Hill Guinea Pike. They took along sweet treets, and sang songs to (left to right) Lieutenat Barry Mesley, and Firefighter/Paramedics Tom Porter, Joe Stoffolano and Harley Shepard.

They visited the station to thank the men for their service to the community, and to extend their symphathy after the recent deaths of  Colerain Township Firefighters Robin Broxterman and Brian Schira who were killed in early April while fighting a fire in the basement of a home on Squirrles Nest Lane in Colerain Township.
