Loveland High School Fall Athletic Signings

4-sit 4-stand SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO - “Today we are honoring those Loveland senior student athletes who will be committing to play interscholastic athletics at the college level. For all, this is both the end of a long process and the beginning of a new adventure,” said Loveland High School Athletic Director Jeff Zidron on November 14 in the Media Room at Loveland High School. “Every one of these athletes has been competing across multiple sports for over ten years. The number of car pools, practices, weekends, the emotional high and lows and the shear volume of practices, games and events they have been part of are astonishing.”

Zidron told the athletes' parents that the day was an end of “literally years of sacrifice and enjoyment.”  He said, “It is also the start of a level of competition your young athletes have been preparing for their entire lives. We hope that the Loveland Athletic program has aided in their preparation both physically and emotional for the upcoming challenge.”

Zidron said that he hoped Loveland High School has helped instill in them the work ethic and desire they will need to succeed at the next level. “Be prepared for both success and failure – remember Tiger Pride and you will be successful.”

Montessori School Kicks off Soccer Program

Soccer-1 by Bonnie McNett

LOVELAND, OHIO - The students at Children's Meeting House Montessori School have an exciting new after school activity: soccer.  The program, which began this fall, is open to both boys and girls and focuses on improving coordination, team work, and good sportsmanship.  The children meet once a week and work on dribbling the ball, passing to others, scoring, and the basic rules of soccer.  "We've seen a real difference in the confidence and coordination in nearly all the kids.  The group as a whole now exhibits increased skill in ball handling and they are having a great time." said Cam Eicher, program coordinator.  The program also provides a healthy snack of fruit, pretzels, or crackers, which is several children's favorite part of the program.

The why, how and when of Loveland Youth Lacrosse

Sign up begins October 18

LOVELAND, OHIO - Loveland Youth Lacrosse has announced their 2009 Spring Youth Lacrosse registration beginning, Oct 18 through Nov 18 .

Registration must be completed on-line.  Go to www.lovelandlax.com to register.

What is Loveland Youth Lacrosse?
Loveland Youth Lacrosse is part of the Loveland Lacrosse Club. They serve hundreds of youth players in Loveland and surrounding communities in grades 3/4 &and 5/6. Their 7/8 grade teams serve local middle school players from surrounding communities.

Loveland Youth Lacrosse is the designated feeder program for the highly successful Loveland Middle School and Loveland High School boy’s lacrosse teams.

? What is Loveland Youth Lacrosse all about?
Loveland Youth Lacrosse (LYL) has developed a reputation as one of the top youth lacrosse programs in Southern Ohio.  LYL players have gone on to roster numerous state and national youth all-star teams, and collect statewide awards including, All-Ohio Cup MVP.

The program is heavily focused on building foundational lacrosse skills through consistent and planned instruction. They embrace “teaching lacrosse vs. coaching it.” Their staff applies a curriculum-based approach to building core lacrosse skills.  By the end of the season, each player is expected to comprehend master core skills needed to be effective at the next level. Players are placed on skill and age-appropriate teams, and games are maximized to allow players the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned.  Because of their unique structure, they ensure players get equal playing time during games. As a result of the heavy focus on fundamental skills, game day often produces positive winning results.

When is the season?
Practice begins in late February. Games start early March and end by Mother's Day.

When are practices and games held?
LYL practices 2-3 times, Monday through Saturday. Games are held Sunday afternoons.

Can I sign up my 2nd grader?
In 2008, they had approximately six 2nd graders in the Loveland Youth Lacrosse program. However, they do require approval of the LLC Board and the Youth Lacrosse Director before they can sign up. There are no purely 2nd grade teams in Southern Ohio, and 2nd graders must play on the 3/4-grade team.

Can my son play other sports in the spring?
The decision to have your son involved in multiple sports is left solely to the parents. While they encourage your player to attend as many practices and games as possible, there is no penalty for missing practice or games. Since the focus is teaching lacrosse vs. winning games, they utilize game days as 'teachable moments' in their lacrosse education.  This flexibility allows many boys currently involved in other sports to try lacrosse. They experience the speed and action of the game, so many of their friends are talking about. The rosters are filled with both recreational and select traditional spring sport players that tried lacrosse for one season and are now hooked. Both player and parent feel there’s just too much action in lacrosse to go back to standing around waiting for their turn, or the ball to come their way. There’s a reason why it’s called “The fastest game on two feet”.

What else can Loveland Youth Lacrosse offer my son?
Loveland Youth Lacrosse teams participate in a number of fun local tournaments in addition to the regular season. They also host a number of well-known local and national sports figures at practices throughout the spring. Recent speakers included individuals from the NFL, major college basketball, Major League Lacrosse, and NCAA national championship Div. I and III lacrosse players and coaches. Additionally, the Loveland High School boy’s varsity lacrosse head coach and captains meet with our youth players. The Loveland High School Lacrosse team was State Runner-up in 2008. They offer camps in the month of June, as well as casual and fun-focused box lacrosse leagues in the summer and winter.

Where can I get more information or speak to someone about youth lacrosse?
