CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO - The increasing number of home foreclosures has been a growing problem locally, and nationally. In Clermont County, there were over 1,000 foreclosures in 2007 and about the same number the year before, according to a study by the Legal Aide Society of Southwest Ohio. “In response to this situation, the Better Housing League of Greater Cincinnati is now providing free pre-foreclosure counseling to Clermont County citizens,” said Crystal Patrick with the Clermont Department of Job and Family Services and the Affordable Housing Coalition. The number to call to arrange a counseling session is (513) 721-6855.
One of the primary causes of foreclosures is that consumers wait until they receive a foreclosure notice to begin working with their lender, or contacting an organization for counseling assistance. At this point, it may be too late to prevent the foreclosure. Consumers need to address the problem as soon as they realize they are unable to pay their mortgage obligation. A counselor from the Better Housing League may be able to assist you in maneuvering through difficult situations with lenders to avert the foreclosure.
“The counseling service of the Better Housing League will be a valuable asset to many home owners in Clermont County,” said Patrick. “The challenge is to get consumers to make that call early in the process.” Contact the Better Housing League of Greater Cincinnati: 513-721-6855.
