“Killer instinct. Refuses to get beat”
Because soccer is the sport Corey focused on during her high school athletic career and is the sport in which she earned a college scholarship, this was Corey's first and only year running track. In fact, her 1600 meter run at Regionals was only the fourth time she has competed at this distance. CCD Head Track Coach Steve Conner awarded Corey with Dave Walsh MVP Award at the team's athletic banquet last week and said "Corey is a true anchor. She has the competitive spirit and killer instinct. She refuses to get beat. If she is in the lead, she will not get caught. If she is behind, she will do everything possible to take the lead. I would love to see how far she would have gone if she would have run all four years. She is a true runner."
In the fall of her senior year, Corey was selected first team All City (Southwest Ohio District) in soccer for the second year in a row for the CCD Indians. She will be playing NCAA Division I soccer for Bucknell University this fall in the Patriot League. When she steps on the pitch at Bucknell in August, Corey will be following in the student-athlete footsteps of her two older sisters, Hillary, who runs cross-country and track for Oberlin College and Claire, who plays Rugby for Elon University. Corey is the daughter of Laurel and Bill Tipton of Miami Township.
