Grailville Poets Reading and Workshop

Part of Grailville’s new Third Sunday Poetry Series

Grailville Retreat and Program Center just outside of Loveland invites you to attend Greenville Poets Reading and Workshop on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at 2:00 pm. This award-winning group of writers from southwestern Ohio has published eleven books of poems and regularly appears in the top tier of literary magazines.  Members Cathy Essinger, David and Suzanne Garrison, Belinda Rismiller, Lianne Spidel and Myrna Stone will read, discuss their group and lead a writing workshop. This event is part of Grailville’s new Third Sunday Poetry Series, offering monthly opportunities for poets and poetry lovers to gather for readings, performances and discussions.

Among them, the Greenville Poets have published 11 books of poems, three volumes of translation, one book of literary criticism, and two anthologies. They have won grants from the Ohio Arts Council and many other prizes and fellowships.

Cathryn Essinger is the author of three books of poetry- most recently from What I Know About Innocence, from Main Street Rag Press. She received an Ohio Arts Council grant and was Ohio's Poet of the Year in 2005. She is a professor of English at Edison Community College, in Piqua, Ohio.

David Lee Garrison’s work—poetry, criticism, and translations—has appeared in many journals and anthologies. His co-edited anthology of work titled O Taste and See: Food Poems, won the Anthology of the Year Award for 2004 from Pudding House Press. His most recent book is Sweeping the Cemetery (Browser Books).Suzanne Kelly-Garrison, writes fiction and is seeking a publisher for her novel about growing up as an Irish Catholic in the Midwest, The Stolen Child. David and Suzanne live in Dayton, Ohio and teach at Wright State University.

Belinda Rismiller is a founding member of the Granville Poets which was established in the mid '80s. She has been writing for more than 20 years and has received two Professional Assistance Awards, one from the Ohio Arts Council and one from the Darke County Arts Council.

Lianne Spidel’s chapbook Chrome was published in 2006 by Finishing Line Press. Among her publishing credits are poems in Poetry and Shenandoah, among other journals, and in the anthology I Have My Own Song For It: Modern Poems of Ohio.

Myrna Stone is the author of two poetry collections, most recently How Else to Love the World (Browser Books Publishing, 2007). Her poetry has been anthologized and featured on both Poetry Daily and Verse Daily. Honors include the 2001 Ohio Poet of the Year Award.

Grailville’s Third Sunday Poetry Series is co-sponsored by Cincinnati Writers Project, Dos Madres Press, Greater Cincinnati Writers League and InkTank. Spend Sunday afternoon with learning from and with accomplished poets from the Cincinnati area and beyond. There is a $15 fee for the 2:00 pm reading. The Poetry Workshop, beginning at 3:30 pm is by donation. Workshop participants should bring five copies on up to three poems.
