In Christianity, All Saints Day is a day commemorating all the saints of the church, known and unknown. It is celebrated on November 1st in the Western churches and on the first Sunday after Pentecost in the Eastern churches. It is a day on which churches glorify God for all God's saints, known and unknown. During the Reformation, the Protestant churches understood "saints" in its New Testament usage as including all believers and reinterpreted the feast of All Saints as a celebration of the unity of the entire Church.
All Saints Day, November 1st, is celebrated wherever the Grail is present around the world as the traditional birthday of The Grail. Why All Saints Day? Fr. Jacques van Ginneken and the small band of women that first conceived of The Grail Movement had a very broad vision and high goals. Father van Ginneken said: "I mean The Grail to be an All-Saints-Movement . . . Aiming together at a high and distant spiritual good, like Parcifal, the pure fool."
Although All Saints Day, in itself, is a joyous festival, it is also the eve of All Souls' Day and in medieval times it became customary to pray for the dead on this date. At dusk, torch-lit processions and church vigils were held, and bells were rung till midnight. Following this tradition, our All Saints celebration will end with a hayride to the Grailville Cemetery for a prayer of loving remembrance.
The All Saints Celebration, including the Potluck Supper and All Saints Parade, will be held at Grailville on Friday, November 2 at 6:00 pm in the Grailville Dining Room. Reservations are highly suggested.
