Welcome to ClayWorks newest tradition
Start this year's holiday celebration by adding limited edition Whistle Stop ClayWorks Ornament to your collection of holiday decorations.
“We are proud to offer our first commemorative ornament in a train ornament series. ClayWorks will introduce an ornament each December during the Christmas in Loveland celebration creating a series that celebrates Loveland’s railway history which will be fun to collect and the whole family will enjoy," says Kay Bolin O’Grady, co-owner.
2013 features the train engine in celebration of ClayWorks 4th anniversary and Loveland’s railway history. "We will be adding various train cars and of course the caboose during the next several years," said Bolin O’Grady.
ClayWorks started the glaze your own complimentary handmade ornament in 2010 during their first year of operation. The first year 150 ornaments were distributed to patrons who glazed their ornament and watched the fire and flames of the outdoor Raku firing. That number will increase to 650 complimentary ornaments for 2013.
Come early. In 2012 they were out of ornaments by 6:45 PM. ClayWorks will open their doors at 3:30 PM, to allow people to come there first to paint your ornament, before the Christmas in Loveland celebration begins.
Participate by glazing a commemorative ornament specifically made for this outdoor Raku firing, watch the action while warming up by the bonfire or relax inside the studio. "You can take your complimentary ornament home with you that night or come back the next week to pick it up” said Bolin O’Grady.
There are six firings scheduled, first loading of kiln at 4:45 PM, and the last one at scheduled for 7:15 PM. "We recommend you come between 3:30 and 5:30 to glaze your ornament and insure its spot in the kiln,” said Bolin O’Grady.
Tim O’Grady, co-owner of ClayWorks, explains “Raku is a unique rapid and spontaneous method of glazing and firing clay which was created in Japan in the 16th century. The ceramic work is quickly heated to 1,820°F in about 45 minutes, removed glowing-red with tongs and placed in a barrel of combustibles such as paper or sawdust. The pieces are then quenched in water and cleaned to expose the beautiful results of the process. Who can resist seeing this first hand?”
This is one stop not to miss during the Christmas in Loveland celebration on December 15th from 4 until – 9 PM.
There will also be plenty of one of kind handmade gifts, by local clay artists, in the gallery to pursue. Gift certificates are available for the budding artist on your list. "We invite you all to come and dive into your imagination to start off the New Year right," said Bolin O’Grady.
