Around 80 students continued tradition of community health
Loveland, Oh. - The Loveland Elementary School (LES) Runners Club celebrated its annual final run for the fall season recently. This year, around 80 fourth-grade students met every Tuesday and Thursday through September and October to promote healthy living.
“I hope our participants are gaining a realization that running can be very satisfying and rewarding,” said LES Teacher Andrew Price, who also coordinates the Runner’s Club activities. “Many of our students – when thinking about running a 5K – probably think to themselves that they would never be able to run three miles. But, after coming to LES Runners Club for a couple of weeks they realize that six laps (the equivalent of three miles) is not as daunting as it first seemed.”
For the final run, runners were joined by teachers and parents; all dressed in their favorite Tiger spirit wear. Even though the fall season is complete – the hope is that the lesson learned is lifelong.
“We encourage our runners to do the annual Tiger Trot at Loveland Intermediate School every spring and for many of them it is their very first 5K race,” said Price. “They are so proud of themselves when they finish and I hope it translates into a lifelong love of running.”

Maineville, Oh. - “This has truly been a dream come true,” said hunter Mike Behrmann, “This is a passion. I am so proud to tell my stories to anyone who will listen.” Mike lives just outside of Loveland.
Behrmann said he has been a hunter for many years and harvested a lot of deer, however the last five year has been a rough road. He said, “With all the hard work, blood, sweat, tears, and effort I have put into hunting day after day, daylight to dawn. I lost four whitetail bucks.” In November 2012 he was out on a morning hunt, when he had a “giant” 10 point buck walk into his sites. He made a great shot on him and heard him crash to the ground. “We decided to let him lay, so we eased out of the woods for two hours to give the deer time to rest in peace.” When he returned to retrieve his deer, his tree stand was gone – stolen, along with his buck.
“I was ready to give up at that point. The more I thought about it, I realized I would not let that stop me,” Behrmann said. “For the fact that I have instilled the same passion for deer hunting in my son.”
Then, in the 2013 hunting season, while hunting with his nine year-old son, his son finally got to witness first hand what it is like to harvest a mature whitetail buck. “A buck most men would love to harvest,” said Behrmann. “That will be a moment forever in my heart. That moment, my son with his buck, made me realize that I cannot give up.”
That is a little insight to what Behrmann describes as, "The blood, sweat, tears hunter in him" and what he had been through the last five years.
Fast forward to this past December 2. Behrmann packed up his gear to head out for an evening hunt with his buddy, Anthony Miracle. “We hit our hunting spots at about 1 o'clock and got all set up. At around 2 o'clock I decided to take out my grunt call to do a little grunting and rattling with some antlers.” He decided to grunt with his favorite Primos Bleat Can, a doe in heat call devise. He sat and waited about ten minutes, and repeated the call. As he was looking around, one hillside over from where he was sitting, Behrmann spotted the buck of a lifetime. He picked up his Remington 870 shotgun and the buck was roughly 120 yards-away from him, standing there looking around. Behrmann said, “He had heard my calls, but was unsure witch direction to turn.
“It seemed like I was standing there for hours, which was only a matter of minutes. I started to shake. Nerves. So, I lowered my gun, took a couple deep breathes to calm them. I grabbed my bleat can, turned it upside down one more time. The buck heard it, turned his head at my direction, and started walking towards me. I raised my gun slowly, put my site on him and shot at 75 yards. He ran down the hill toward me, then up the creek about 150 yards and fell. He was down. I met up with my buddy Anthony, told him what happened, and together we headed to retrieve my deer. I was so excited when we walked up on the monster whitetail I started tearing up because I knew I had finally got my buck. As I was standing over-top of him I teared up more, realizing I had had just harvested the deer of a lifetime.”
Behrmann and Miracle sat there and counted the points of this giant “non typical” non-symmetrical antlered Ohio whitetail deer. They could not believe what they we're seeing, a giant, 25-points.
Behrmann said there is no official score yet for his deer, due to a required, 60-day dry time to "set" the rack. He said, “We have an unofficial score from my taxidermist of 219 inches.” The Ohio record is 304 set in 2000 by Michael Beatty.
When arriving home it was cold, dark, and rainy. Behrmann said his wife told him, “Bring it in the house for pics.”
Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine editor, Dan Schmidt wrote, “Might have the coolest spouse ever. I couldn’t help but ask the obvious question: What’s the deal with the buck in the house by the Christmas tree? LOL!"
“I never thought a picture would go so far on social media, and magazines so fast. The outpouring of support has been a major gift, and I am very thankful. I want my story to tell fellow hunters young and old, that no matter how hard you try to achieve a goal... to never give up. To all hunters out there I would say, get your kids involved, and always wear your safety harnesses. Good luck to all.”

Loveland Sophomore running back, Luke Waddell breaks 48-year-old school record
by Willie Lutz
Loveland, Oh.- When the Loveland Tigers came into the 2014, they were put into a difficult situation. They had to follow the hype coming off of a Division II State Championship in 2013. They lost key senior leaders, because graduation is the natural order of school. They were looked up to like gods, and the fans held them to that standard. However, not everything can be retained.
The Tigers worst nightmare came true on Halloween night against the Milford Eagles when they lost 20-17 on a field goal with two seconds remaining. On that night, the team lost the rivalry Crosstownship Victory Bell that has sat outside their locker room for years, their playoff bid, and a chance to retain their title. Instead, their season is now overshadowed by what it could have been.
Going on the road against a rival always seems like a trap. The Milford-Loveland football rivalry has been dwindling for years, as Loveland annually demolished the Eagles. Instead, the Tigers saw an inspired Milford squad with nothing left to lose. The team couldn’t make the play-offs and nearly everyone had written this game off as a walk-through for the Tigers.
Milford had the Loveland defense spinning in the early stages of the game. The Eagles offense was a zone read (the quarterback either keeps the ball or hands it off depending on what he sees in the defense), which is the same offense that gave the Tigers trouble in their loss against Lebanon in week two. Ashcraft ended the game with 158 yards rushing, which was more yards than Loveland’s entire rushing squad who had 141.
Loveland showed life in the final stages of the game. Milford lead 14-10 at the half. With 0:48 left in the third, Luke Waddell slammed home an 8-yard run to tie the game at 17-17. Then, in the fourth quarter, both defenses went to war. Milford and Loveland were trading punts, as both team’s offenses seemed overwhelmed by their opponent’s brick walls of defense on the other side.
Then, the Eagles broke through. With 0:14 left in the game, Milford got the ball down to the Loveland five-yard line and lined up for a 21-yard field goal. The first one was a fake and Loveland snubbed it out. Drew Ashcraft threw an incompletion. The Loveland defense ran across the field to the sideline, jumping and cheering. What they didn’t realize is that there were two seconds left on the clock; Milford had another chance. Milford kicker Zach Laudermilk lined up and drilled a 21-yard field goal to end Loveland’s playoff hopes.
The only true positive for the Tigers was a record-breaking night for sophomore running back, Luke Waddell. Waddell broke Jack McCoy’s 48-year-old school record of 1358 rushing yards in a single season set in 1966. Waddell would finish the day with 152 yards on the ground to add to his season total of 1464 yards on the ground, which was more than enough to lead the ECC in rushing.
The Tigers season ends with a second place tie in the ECC and an empty feeling in their stomachs. They finished 6-4 and three-tenths of a computer point away from the playoffs.

Hit the Road to Milford on Halloween to an opportunity that should send chills down fans spines
by Willie Lutz
Loveland, Oh.- "We've got two options. We can keep out chins held up high and fight like Tigers or we can pout and moan,” Loveland Tigers’ head coach, Fred Cranford, said after an embarrassing week five loss at Kings. The Tigers were a pathetic 2-3 due to sloppy play, dumb mistakes, and poor focus. Four weeks later, after they looked like their chances of reaching the playoffs were a thought of the past, the Tigers have rallied to four straight victories, outscoring opponents 159-34 in that span, including their most recent win, a 24-13 victory of Turpin.
Loveland has come alive in all three aspects of the game; offense, defense, and special teams. Offensively, Luke Waddell and the offensive line have rallied to carry the unit. The sophomore back, who couldn’t find a hole in the first couple of weeks, has now rallied to a league-leading 1312 yards rushing. Waddell is getting a great push from his offensive line now, which he thrived off of last season. When the hole isn’t there, he pushes and shoves until he makes his own.
In the match-up with Turpin, the Loveland running game was world-class overall. While Luke Waddell had 224 yards and three touchdowns (which seems to be an average day for him at this point), the team rushed for a cumulative 289 yards, averaging six yards a carry. The rushing unit alone out-gained Turpin’s entire offense.
Defensively, this team is night and day compared to the first half of the season. They would inexplicably lose their focus and allow the opposition to haul off huge gains, if not huge touchdowns. They have found clarity on the defensive line. The defensive line, led by Dylan Norton and Jake Saunders, are giving opposing quarterbacks nightmares.
Against Turpin, they only allowed 13 points. Turpin is a very steady team offensively, but they didn’t have an answer for the Tigers’ rush. They sacked Turpin quarterback, Bennie Stoll, three times, which forced him to play out of his comfort zone for a majority of the game.
Evan Burig is a man that doesn’t get the credit he deserves. His holder, Jeff Prifti, gets even less credit for his job. When the two are together, a very average Evan Burig turns into something special. Burig looks more comfortable with Prifti holding, which is a huge understatement. Although he did miss a 40-yard field goal against the Spartans, he didn’t miss by much. The left-footed kicker also drilled a 31-yard field goal that left no doubt it was going in from the time it left his foot until the time it split the uprights; something we didn’t often see without Prifti holding.
Now, the Tigers have spent a majority of the season on the outside looking in for the playoffs. In the state of Ohio, only the top eight teams in each region qualify, and with the Turpin win, they took the number 8 seed in this week’s computer rankings. The 6-3 Loveland Tigers will now face the rival 4-5 Milford Eagles in their final regular season matchup. The Tigers will be in the state playoffs with a victory, with a loss, things would be shaky. They will head on the Road on Halloween in a game that sends chills down fans spines, via the fact that a surprise loss could knock them out of play-off contention.
Tigers at Milford Friday. Game time is 7 PM. They will play for the CrossTownship Victory Bell.

The third grade Loveland Tigers played in the American Division Championship (Super Bowl) game on Sunday at Lakota East High School against the Sycamore Aviators. Behind the strength of our 5-3 defense and our Wing T offense, we gave up very few yards but gained many. The final score was 6-0 in favor of our Tigers who controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish. Behind the power of our offensive line, Julius Vorbroker scored our only touchdown on a quarterback sneak from the four yard line.
In the 2013 season, this team did not win a single game. These boys have demonstrated tremendous growth in their second season together and it showed in the championship game. This was a total team effort from the players to the parents and coaches. We are already looking forward to the 2015 season to see what we can accomplish next. Go Tigers!!

Loveland, Oh. - Sophomore, Luke Waddell led the Loveland Tigers to a 24-13 win over Turpin on Senior Night, with 224 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns; long touchdowns of 32, 40, and 41 yards.
Kings remains un-beaten (6-0, 9-0) and in sole possession of 1st place in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference with their 24-20 win Friday over Glen Este. They play 4-2, 4-5 Anderson to finish out the season next week at home.
Friday's win puts Loveland in sole possession of 2nd place in the ECC, pushing down Glen Estes, now 4-2, 4-5 to the number 3 spot. Loveland travels to play the Milford Eagles (2-4,4-5) to close out the regular season, needing a win to keep their post-season hopes alive. On the road, and against it's archrival is not a certain win considering how zealous these two teams savor a victory each other in any sport. Milford goes into that game from it's Friday 35- 0 home win over Walnut Hills.

Loveland, Oh.- Last week, the words “new breed of tigers” were in the headline. This week, that breed proved once again that they’re in for the long run. In this case, the long run is the playoffs. A team that looked dead for the first half of the 2014 season has now outscored its last three opponents 135-19 (an average score of about 45-6), including a 45-0 win against Walnut Hills last Saturday.
Consistency; it’s a word that been used in nearly every piece of Loveland football news this season. Now, the Tigers have found the positive side of it. The whole team is clicking. It could be argued that the return of a key leader, Jeff Prifti, has awaken the sleeping monster.
Jeff Prifti is a key component on all three fronts for Loveland. On defense (though he hasn’t had any reps at the position this season), Prifti is a lockdown corner. On offense, Prifti provides another running threat to complement Luke Waddell. However, Prifti’s impact on special teams is probably the most significant. Jeff Prifti has been Evan Burig’s kick holder since their sophomore year. Burig looked shaky earlier this season, but in the game against Walnut Hills, he effortlessly nailed a 40-yard field goal and 6 extra points.
The offense is turning into a three-headed monster with Giovanni Ricci, Luke Waddell, and Drew Plitt leading one of the most explosive units in Southwest Ohio. Giovanni Ricci is providing a crucial target for Drew Plitt. Ricci, who committed to Western Michigan, leads the ECC in receiving yards and seems to constantly be catching first down passes for Drew Plitt.
Luke Waddell could make any team stay afloat. The team leaned on the running back to carry them through the rough start. The 5’8” sophomore finds ways to make even the strongest defense look irrelevant. Waddell trails Kings’ running back, DeAndre Barnett by 48 yards for the league lead (Barnett has 1136, Waddell has 1088) on 50 less carries. Waddell now has six games with over 100 yards rushing, including 208 yards Saturday over Walnut Hills (he also rushed for three touchdowns in the game).
Finally, Drew Plitt has learned a lot about Drew Plitt throughout this season. Plitt seems to have learned that you can’t hit the home run pass without setting it up with some small ball. Plitt, who couldn’t catch a break in the beginning of the season, now owns the second best quarterback rating among ECC starters. He has found his groove and now acts as a leader in the most important position on the field.
Now, you can’t win 45-0 without the help of some defense. In this match-up, Loveland’s defensive line was lights out. The front four were led by junior Jake Saunders, who hasn’t had his name called very often, only acting as a run stopper, until the Withrow match-up. Quarterbacks, Walnut Hills’ Kevin Blount especially, are now having nightmares of Loveland’s #90. The junior had Blount on his back on plenty of plays throughout the night.
The now 5-3 Loveland Tigers will now move onto a week nine home match-up against the 3-5 Turpin Spartans. The Tigers need a win in their next two games if they want a shot in the playoffs. The team sits at #10 in the Division II, region 6 computer rankings, needing to be in the top eight to qualify for the postseason. The game will be at 7 PM inside Tiger stadium, where the Tigers are undefeated this season.
Region 6 - 1. Cin. LaSalle (7-1) 22.8625, 2. Cin. Mount Healthy (8-0) 21.3586, 3. Kings Mills Kings (8-0) 18.425, 4. Lima Senior (8-0) 17.6125, 5. Harrison (6-2) 15.3875, 6. CINCINNATI, Ohio – Tuesday, Loveland High School Head Football Coach, Fred Cranford, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, and others joined Verizon representatives to present a $70,000 grant to the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. The donation will assist the organization in enhancing services offered to engage men across Ohio to end domestic violence.
Cranford told Loveland Magazine, "I Believe it is time for us as mentor leaders to begin to educate our young men on the prevention of domestic violence."
“The donation from Verizon and HopeLine means a great deal to our organization,” said Nancy Neylon, executive director of the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. “With the donation, we will be able to take our network to a whole new level in the state of Ohio and we’ll be able to get more men engaged in the organization.”
Presented during National Domestic Violence Awareness month, the grant included a donation of $50,000 contributed by HopeLine from Verizon and an additional $20,000 from the Verizon Foundation. The grant will help the Ohio Men’s Action Network implement programming to engage men and boys throughout Ohio in domestic violence awareness and prevention.
“At Verizon, we’re committed to supporting local organizations year-round in their efforts to combat domestic violence,” said Andy Brady, director of sales for the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region for Verizon Wireless. “The $70,000 will play a vital role in assisting the organization to expand programming and services to educate men across the state on the importance of preventing domestic violence.”
Following the presentation, Green, Cranford, and other men in the community joined Andy Brady and Mark Frazier, president of the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region for Verizon Wireless, in signing the OHMan Pledge to commit to speaking out against domestic violence and playing an active role to end violence against women.
Coach Cranford said, "We must educate on domestic violence if we want to prevent it. We as a program will begin to implement opportunities together to help raise awareness and prevention on domestic violence in our own Tiger community."

Loveland, Oh.- The Loveland Tigers took on the Withrow Tigers at Loveland for this year’s homecoming football game. While homecoming is usually a very exciting an eventful time for the city of Loveland, there wasn’t much excitement in this game.
Loveland had control of each and every moment of the game. They broke the seal on the downpour 3:25 minutes into the game as Drew Plitt hit Giovanni Ricci for a 35-yard touchdown to cap a masterful opening drive. The home squad outgained Withrow 356-131 in the battle of yards.
To put that in to perspective, Luke Waddell (who didn’t play most of the second half) ran the ball 11 times and picked up 137 yards and a touchdown. Withrow ran 40 plays of offense and only gained 131 yards to complement their single touchdown with 3:08 left in the game against Loveland’s back-up defense.
Withrow didn’t seem to put up a fight on either side of the ball as the Loveland offense easily scored 34 points (three touchdowns, two Evan Burig field goals) and seemingly never lost control of the game. The starters where on the bench most of the second half, otherwise the score may even be more lopsided. Senior defensive end, Zacheeus Williams, added the other Loveland score on a fumble recovery in the end zone.
The now 4-3 Loveland Tigers will move on to a Saturday night road match-up against the 1-6 Walnut Hills Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles only win comes from a forfeit against Withrow. The game was played and Walnut Hills actually lost the match-up, but Withrow’s win was eventually vacated.

The University of Dayton's Zach Elias from Loveland High School was recognized by the Pioneer Football League for his performance in the Flyers' 31-21 win at Marist on Saturday.
The Dayton defense forced seven turnovers and Elias had more than anyone else. The Flyer strong safety led the defensive effort with an interception and a fumble recovery. He also had six tackles (four solo), a pass deflection and a forced fumble. His six tackles were tied for second on the team and his four solo hits were tied for the team lead.
The senior from Loveland High School in Loveland, Ohio grabbed an interception that he returned 21 yards to set up UD's first touchdown. His forced fumble and subsequent recovery at the Dayton 19-yard line stopped Marist's deepest penetration of the third quarter. Reported in daytonflyers.com/news

Elias recorded a fumble forced and recovered as well as an interception in Dayton’s 31-21 PFL victory at Marist, Saturday. He paced an impressive seven-turnover outing by the Flyers, one shy of the PFL record. Elias started his day with a first-quarter interception he returned 21 yards to the Marist four-yard line and set up the first Dayton touchdown. He then added a third quarter fumble strip and pickup to end a potential Marist scoring drive inside the Dayton 20-yard line. In between, he recorded six tackles (four solo) and broke up a pass. Loveland, Oh- Seven days changed everything for a team that was embarrassed by their most bitter rivals. The Loveland Tigers came into the match-up with the Anderson Redskins with something to prove following their 31-13 loss at Kings. For a team that struggled to find a rhythm on either side of the ball just seven days earlier, the Tigers exploded for 49 points and held the Redskins to just 13.
The pairing started off with the team looking like the same old Tigers. With 5:29 left in the first quarter, the Redskins tied the score 7-7 and the Tigers, just as they had the week prior, started pushing opposing players after plays and the personal fouls started mounting once again. Then, on the ensuing offensive drive, after another dirty hit after a play from the Tigers, head coach Fred Cranford called a timeout and huddled his team together.
In the huddle, a livid Cranford, whose voice was easily audible from the press box, told his something along the lines of he won’t deal with anymore dumb penalties. The team immediately caught the gravity of Cranford’s message and played a cleaner brand of football the rest of the game. This brand of Tiger football is something fans have been craving since week one, the brand fans came to love last season. They played clean and committed minimal mistakes.
These mistakes seemed to wipe away struggles from several struggling players, most notably from Drew Plitt. Plitt, who was masterful all of last season, had been struggling mightily during the 2014 campaign. The junior quarterback completed 10 of his 13 passes, the 77% accuracy rate, which is night and day compared to the 41.6% he had through the first five weeks of the season. The quarterback who has struggled mightily with interceptions only threw one. The pass on that play wasn’t even half bad.
The one thing the Tigers have against them right now is an injury bug. As of now, the team is down its leading rusher in Nate Slagel (not that Luke Waddell hasn’t done a very impressive job replacing him), senior corner Drew Paschal, Josh Mezaros, and have been without their best defensive player in Jeff Prifti. While Prifti will likely return to action in the match-up next week, they’re missing many players for the remainder of the season.
The now 3-3 Loveland Tigers will now move on to a week seven matchup with the ECC’s newest team, the Withrow Tigers. Withrow is 0-6, because they’ve had all results thus far vacated this season due to an “ineligible player.” The Tigers will be at home for the match-up, seeing as is the 2014 homecoming matchup.

Loveland High School redeemed their loss at Kings (31-13) to hand it to Anderson last Friday at Tiger Stadium, 49-13.
After the victory, Willie Lutz talked to head coach Fred Cranford about the game and what Cranford will do to prepare his team to avoid the distraction of Homecoming week. The Loveland Tigers play the Withrow Tigers on Friday at 7 PM for their Homecoming game.
Lutz askes Cranford about the un-sportsmanlike play he has seen from the Tigers.
